Well, interesting weekend this (counting Friday in). Let's see ... where to start?
I spoke to Priya)on Friday morning, after quite a while (I'd say .. August, when I visited them). She told me that Deepti (Hey Pixie! :-) )found *my* blog, through Mike's. I'm not sure how she came across Mike's (a mutual friend? Another reader? ... I don't think she's in DC, so I'd rule out personal association). I kinda reminisced about how I found Mike's blog last year. As I remember it, I was so bored, I decided to have a look at what other people were writing about, and I noticed that Blogger had this really cool feature that listed blogs updated in the last 10 minutes. I scrolled idly through the list, until I came across "Popular Music Musings", clicked on it, quite expecting something else ... and was pleasantly surprised :-) ... I remember telling Vodka, and possibly Metal, to check out the blog ... an attempt to return to the "Macchan, what's the best guitar solo EVER?" days, I guess!
It's kinda interesting ... the complex and tangled web we weave. One of the things I can see here in TypePad is the referring address of the incoming view to this blog ... not sure if Blogger has this feature or not. A lot of people come in from Google searches, believe it or not ... and a majority of those are searches about Rammstein's Mein Teil, or Rosenrot ... or Kanye West/Jarhead (these are the links within 24 hours of this post) ... I am kinda tripped that my little patch on the net makes it to the first page of a Google search, but this might be sheer flukes. I mean, surely there are better matches, eh? As thrilled as I am, I am quite worried about the quality of Google's search results now :-p ... Oh, a couple of hits were from lists of BITSian bloggers - Wilde Vogel and Sast Wingees Speaketh ... if you want to read about current BITSians', check out these lists ... takes you back, these perpetual cribs about compres :-)
What else ...
Oh, Prithwi - the guy who helped me design my PC, etc. - lent me Doom 3. Let me say this - I have decided that there is NO way I will play that game sitting alone in my apartment at night (I turn off the lights, and turn on just the desk lamp at night). And this was after the "all hell breaks loose" level ... with God Mode* on! Nikhil, this game's available for the Xbox as well ... have you checked it out?
I was listening to a few random Queensryche tracks this weekend ... just a few MP3s and a couple of iTMS purchases I'd made ... reminded me of why I loved prog metal ... and why I liked early Dream Theater. I mean, come on ... Metropolis Pt. 2 was the best album they put out, and that was ... 3(?) studio albums ago. I was reading that Queensryche was always like early Maiden, but my only experience of them was Empire. After listening to songs like "Queen of the Reich", I now understand where such comments originated, though to my ear, it sounds more like Judas Priest (British Steel or Screaming for Vengeance era) than Maiden.
Also, it sucks that the Patriots lost last night ... I mean, part of the charm of watching the Superbowl with Metal & Divya was being able to gloat & irritate Divya no end ... she cursed my team ... matchfixing! ... only way to explain it. Sigh ... I have to find something else to gloat over this year :-(
